Local talent making big impact in college!!

In In the News by Andrew B

Our three local boys have been playing huge roles for their college teams so far this season, and the Giants staff expects that to keep rolling into the summer!

Ryan Dunn (University of Calgary) Tyler Hodder, and Josh Iannetti (Thompson River University) are all in their second year of college, and have all started the season RED hot after playing last summer for the Giants.

Tyler Hodder has picked up right where he left of last season going 3-0 so far this season with 2 complete games, 27 innings pitched, and only allowing 6 runs, 19 hits while striking out 19 batters. Last year Tyler was the CCBC pitcher of the year! Very impressive for a freshmen, Tyler also picked up some hardware at his school winning the newcomer of the year award, and being in the final 3 for Male athlete of the year! Watch for Tyler to be a workhorse in the Giants pitching staff this summer. He will look to bring his baseball career to new heights as he showcases his stuff against some of the best college players in North America!

Josh Iannetti is off to a hot start this college season hitting for a .304 AVG with 1 double, and 4 RBI, and is currently on a 4 game hitting streak! After starting the season as a backup catcher with the Giants last summer Josh forced his way into the starting lineup with his solid play, hard work ethic, and never give up attitude! At one point Josh started 16 straight games behind the plate, and relished in the role! 16 straight games behind the plate is definitely a tough job for any catcher, but you can definitely see the positive impact that experience is having on Josh this Season, and will only help him improve on a very successful first summer in the WMBL!

Ryan Dunn had the second most innings pitched of any Giants pitcher last summer! Used in just about every role he was always ready and willing to take the ball whenever he was asked. It was also very fitting that Ryan was credited with the Giants very first win at Shellplace!! Ryan’s experience in the WMBL is no doubt helping him this season both at the plate, and on the mound. Ryan has hit for a for a .278 avg with 1 home run and 4 RBI in just six games! On the mound Ryan has made a big impact coming out of the bullpen throwing 9 innings, and only giving up 2 earned runs. Ryan is also 1 of only 2 university of Calgary players ranked in the top 5 of any major stat category with his 2.00 ERA.

You can pick up your season tickets, and flex packs now to watch Josh, Tyler, Ryan, and the rest of the Giants make their mark on the WMBL, and the rest of summer colligate baseball!! It promises to be a action packed summer of baseball you won’t want to miss!
